There is a feeling that some needs, emotions, or other areas being shown is a sign of showing weakness.</p> <p> I was just looking back on different areas of my own life, and how in some moments I felt like half myself, amputated, or really my own council.</p> <p>I guess these thoughts really were sparked by a couple of things: A story my mother told me of my grandfather not getting a colonoscopy because he thought it would make him gay. Or even a guys feeling about a lot of things when it comes to health.</p> <p>I also thought of my own story and my relationships with women, and as a men in society.</p> <p>I see moments with women were I must always play a role but my own worries and fears are always for my own counsel if it becomes to much. I must defend you, hold you, be strong for you, but it becomes to much for most of the woman I have had in my life to do the same.</p> <p>Maybe it&#8217;s bad luck, but I think this is also something that effects men in a lot areas of our culture. It could be a part of what&#8217;s behind so much of the violence for our youth.</p> <p>Here are some words from a football player named Brandon Marshall:</p> <p>&#8220;The cycle starts when we are young boys and girls. Let me illustrate it for you:</p> <p>Li’l Johnny is outside playing and falls. His dad tells him to get up and be strong, to stop crying because men don’t cry.</p> <p>So even from the age of 2, <br/> our belief system begins to form this picture. We are teaching our boys not to show weakness or share any feelings or emotions, other than to be strong and tough.</p> <p>Is that ‘‘validating’’?</p> <p>What do we do when Li’l Susie falls? We say: ‘‘It’s OK. I’m here.
