Charles Mingus (1922-1979) merged his politics with the development of avant-garde aesthetics and techniques. From the free improvisation of the tone poem, “Pitecanthropus Erectius” to the satirical bite of “Fables of Fabus”, Mingus directly addressed the conflicts of his turbulent era.
On a personal note: Mingus helps calm me about my own artistic craziness as I learn more about him :).
